Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Long Beach is a fun beach break that offers up some consistent lefts and rights that break slowly but have good meaty sections for ripping into. The waves here are easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Long Beach?
It gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This spot is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here is very consistent (8/10) and will get crowded often (8/10). The best winds are from the Southwest (the only break here where this direction is offshore). The best swells are from the Southwest and West. It works on a low to mid-tide only.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
