Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, I&J’s is a fun reef break near K365 that offers up some long rippable right-handers. There are a few different spots here as well, a reform which is fun and a couple of other rippable reefs. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 300 meters (984 feet) over a rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for I&J’s?
I&J’s gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest. It works best on a low-to-mid tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
