Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Clovelly is an alright beach break that offers up some small barrels in strong offshore winds and big swells. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Clovelly?
It gets good between waist-high and head-high. We recommend riding a shortboard here most days. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here hardly breaks (2/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South and Southeast and are massive. It works best on a low to mid-tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
