Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Pitzmah (Clazo’s Ledge) is a fun reef break that offers up a short and intense left-hand barrel. This spot was first surfed by a foreigner named Clazo; few people know it and fewer surf it. The waves here require some skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Pitzmah (Clazos Ledge)?
Pitzmah (Clazo’s Ledge) gets good between head high (1.8 meters / 6 feet) and triple overhead (5.5 meters / 18 feet). We recommend riding a shortboard then stepping up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the Southeast. It works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees Celsius (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15 degrees Celsius (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
