Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Clovelly Wedge is a decent beach break that offers up a wedging left-hander off the rocks. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. Take the first wave after a set so the wedge actually forms up.
What are the best surf conditions for Clovelly Wedge?
Clovelly Wedge gets good between head high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard if on. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to surf (5/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the Southeast. It works on a high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temperatures drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
