Located in Brittany, France, Le Petit Minou is a hollow beach break known for its peaky waves and a scattering of rocks, particularly on the southern part known as ‘Les Moules.’ The waves here can be fun and curvy, offering opportunities for hollow peaks and smackable lips, but require some skill to navigate. Breaking over a sand bottom for up to 50 meters (164 feet), this spot is a magnet for crowds, especially given its proximity to Brest.
What are the best surf conditions for Le Petit Minou?
The surf gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and switching to a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave rating of 5/10 and can become extremely crowded (9/10), particularly on weekends. The best winds are from the Northeast, and the ideal swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. It works well on low to mid tides, and a low tide is essential for the best conditions.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16°C (61°F). In winter, a 4/3 wetsuit is best when temperatures drop to 10°C (50°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
