Located in the Channel on the French side is Yport, an excellent reef setup that breaks over a rock bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters providing some great sections for manoeuvres. Watch out for a strong rip that is always in play.
What are the best surf conditions for Yport?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. The break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here does not break often (3/10) and can get quite busy during the holidays (5/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, Northwest, and West. Works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In the winter the same suit will do you just fine in the 10-degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
