Located on the French side of the Channel, Cap Gris-Nez is an excellent rocky reef break that delivers some powerful sections for turns and hacks when the conditions are on. The waves here break for up to 100 meters and are not easy to surf. This spot handles size well and is considered one of the best on the North coast of France.
What are the best surf conditions for Cap Gris-Nez?
Gets good from waist-high to triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size steps up. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here does not break often (3/10) and will usually have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on mid-tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In winter a 4/3 is best as water temperatures only drop to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
