Located on the South Shore of Oahu, Maili Point is a good reef set-up that offers up supersonic left-hand barrels when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging to surf and break over a shallow coral reef for up to 200 meters. The currents are strong, cleanup sets are regular, and sharks are known the patrol the lineup. There are less intimidating waves to the North.
What are the best surf conditions for Maili Point?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get quite crowded when on (8/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures don’t fall below 24 and range as high as 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
