Located on the South Shore of Oahu on the other side of Ala Moana Bowls, is Kaisers, a very fast and sometimes barreling right. The peak has a lower performance left as well. The wave breaks over shallow sea urchin reef. Kaiser’s is surely a quintessential spot with the spirit of legends, (if you believe in that sort of stuff). On normal days there are a wide variety of surfers from longboards to short board rippers, surfer girls and grampas. To surf here, is to feel you are a part of both surfings history and present! The waves here can be pretty heavy and break for up to 50 meters over a coral reef. As with most town spots, and especially because the surf is so good here, it gets very crowded. Localism can be thick at times. If you are a beginner, do not paddle out here unless the surf is very small.
What are the best surf conditions for Kaisers?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a fish or longbaord when smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers but beginner need to stick to the small days. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will be insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round here. Water temperatures don’t fall below 24 and range as high as 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
