Located on the South Shore of Oahu, Sandy Beach is a neck-endangering shore break that offers up a heaving, barreling closeout for those who want to get worked. The waves here get heavy and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. There have been some head-to-sandbar incidents here, be careful. There is a shallow reef on the outside that sometimes breaks, but is usually pretty poor.
What are the best surf conditions for Sandy Beach?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here or bodysurfing or bodyboarding. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will get insanely crowded (10/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures range from 27 to 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
