Located in Southeast Scotland, Stonehaven is a fun right-hand reef set-up that offers up some great walls for performance manoeuvres when the conditions line up. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a rock bottom. Also a beach break to the North of the reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Stonehaven?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard or step-up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not consistent (3/10) and will usually be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are big and from the Northeast and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 14 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 7 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
