Located in Landes, France, Tarnos is an excellent beach break that comes alive when there is some juice in the water. The waves here break over a sand bottom for up to 50 meters, putting out some chunky pits to snag some tube time in. This beach isn’t always the easiest to surf, beginners should be cautious.
What are the best surf conditions for Tarnos?
Gets good from waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard or a step up when the size arrives. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, or West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In winter a 5/4 is best when water temps drop to 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
