Located in Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, Punta Banco is a fun collection of reef breaks and a couple of empty beach breaks. The waves here can be a bit challenging and break for up to 100 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Some of the reefs are coral. Come here when Pavones is too small.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Banco?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will usually have a crew (6/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
