Located in Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, Backwash is a fun right-hand reef, in a middle cove so a bit smaller than the outside point, that offers up some zippy, hollow, and rippable sections. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock bottom.

Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as it gets bigger. this break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will usually have a crew (6/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a low to mid tide to avoid the namesake of the break.
