Located in Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, Hog Hole is a quality right-hand point break that offers up steep performance-oriented walls. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a shallow rock bottom. This area is remote (take a 4×4 only) and accommodation is not cheap. There are two other quality right points/reefs in the area.
What are the best surf conditions for Hog Hole?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up when bigger. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works best on a low to mid-tide.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 28. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
