Located in Taghazout, Morocco, the infamous Anchor Point is the ultimate right-hand point break that offers up ultra-long, fast waves that offer up both barrel sections and performance sections. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 600 meters (yes 600) over a sand bottom. This is one of the spots where it is easier to walk back to the lineup than paddle. Will be crowded but those crowds thin as the size increases. This is probably the most well-known and recognizable wave in all of Morocco, and for good reason.
What are the best surf conditions for Anchor Point?
Gets good from waist-high to triple overhead, and gets better as the size increases. We recommend riding a longboard if small and a shortboard then step up as the swell fills in. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (3/10) and will be very crowded especially when smaller (9/10). The best winds are Northeast. Needs a big, longer period Northwest swell to really light up. Works on a low to mid tide always, and high tide as well when it gets big.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 25 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
