Located on the French side of the Channel, Calais is a poor beach break that is usually perfect for taking out a longboard or a beginner. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Calais?
Gets good between waist-high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard if the swell really steps up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here hardly breaks (2/10) and can get busy on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 16 degrees. In winter a 4/3 is best as water temperatures only drop to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
