Located on the Inner Hebrides, Scotland, Machrihanish is a fun river mouth set-up that offers up good waves for performance manoeuvres when the conditions line up. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Look for a right-point break near the pub as well.
What are the best surf conditions for Machrihanish?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will be uncrowded a lot of the time (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 14 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
