Located on the Inner Hebrides, Scotland, Islay (Machir Bay) is a fun beach break that offers up some punchy sections perfect for performance manoeuvres. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. There is also a good left point to the North.
What are the best surf conditions for Islay (Machir Bay)?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard or step-up when bigger. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will usually be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 14 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
