Located in Orange County, California, Upper Trestles is the lesser-known brother to Lower Trestles. Uppers tends to break a little longer and be not as crowded as lowers, but only breaks for a long right over the cobblestone bottom. Generally, the wave here is pretty rippable and will be class if working right. When everything lines up it is easy to ride a wave all the way down the point, about 150 meters.
What are the best surf conditions for Upper Trestles?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if small and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will get insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the East and Northeast. The best swells are from the West and Northwest. Works on a mid tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summers when water temps range around 20 degrees. In the winters a 4/3 is best as water temps drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
