Located in Humboldt County, California, Bunkers is a good reef break that offers up left and right barrels when the conditions line up. This is a heavy and powerful wave that should be left to those with the skills to surf it. It is a long paddle out to the waves that break for up to 100 meters over a rocky bottom. Also a known shark attack spot.
What are the best surf conditions for Bunkers?
Gets good between overhead and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then a step-up as the size picks up here. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are big and from the Northwest. Works on a high tide only.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 here year-round. Water temperatures range between 9 and 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
