Located in South Lombok, Gili Trawangan is a fun reef break that offers up fast, hollow, but imperfect rights when the swell is on. The waves here are pretty heavy and the currents strong, breaking for up to 300 meters over a coral reef. The island here is a bit of a tourist destination, known for incredible snorkelling and nightlife. Come here for attractions other than the surf and hope to get lucky with the surf.
What are the best surf conditions for Gili Trawangan?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here hardly ever breaks (2/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round here. The water temperatures climb to 28 in the summer and drop only to 25 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
