Keramas is an excellent reef break with a classic black sand and rice field set up. It is often the scene for a lot of high-performance surfing and it is not uncommon to see a few professionals in the water. More recently seen to be the location for major surfing events including the World Championship Tour.
Unfortunately, Keramas is onshore a lot of the time except In the wet season (Dec – Feb) when the winds are more favourable. So it’s best to surf at first light before the wind comes up. Keramas is a fun wave when it is smaller, offering some a few barrels and some punchy rides.
The waves here require a bit of surf skill and can break for up to 100 meters, serving up barreling sections where you can pull in and snag some tube time when it gets overhead.
What are the best surf conditions for Keramas?
Gets good between waist-high to triple overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard or step-up when bigger here. Keramas in East Bali is best suited to intermediate to pro surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and can get ridiculously crowded when it turns on (9/10). The best winds for Keramas are Northwest and West. The best swell direction is from the South, Southwest and West.
