Located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Punta Islita Reef is a good left-hand reef break that throws up speedy walls with rippable sections. The waves here can be quite tricky to surf due to the shallow bottom and break for up to 200 meters over a rocky reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Punta Islita Reef?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard or a step-up when bigger. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures range between 29 and 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
