Located in Northeast Puerto Rico, Leeward Islands, El Unico is a punchy, sucky, and hollow beach break that throws up powerful and shallow sections. The waves here are pretty heavy, bring an extra board, and break for up to 100 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Very popular with bodyboarders. Localism is a problem here as is car theft.
What are the best surf conditions for El Unico?
Gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend a shortboard or step up here. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells come from the North and Northeast. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 26. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
