Located in Northeast Puerto Rico, Leeward Islands, La Selva is an excellent and remote right-hand reef break that offers up some long barreling rides. It can be a difficult wave to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a coral reef. You’ll have to trek about 2 km through cow fields to get here, which keeps the crowds minimal. That being said, do not leave things on the beach, they will be taken. Also, wear running shoes, the cows will give chase.
What are the best surf conditions for La Selva?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is best for intermediates or advanced surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will be uncrowded most of the time (3/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North and Northeast. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 26. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
