Located in South West Australia, Windmills is a fun collection of reef breaks made up of rocks and the sand that builds up around them. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and can break for up to 50 meters, providing fun sections for manoeuvres. This is mostly a summertime spot as larger swells can degrade conditions, and the dominant wind in the wintertime is onshore.
What are the best surf conditions for Windmills?
Gets good between waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard when bigger here. Windmills is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is very consistent (7/10) but can get busy, especially on holidays (5/10). The best wind for Windmills is East and the best tide is mid. The best swell direction is from the Northwest, South, Southwest and West.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer with the warmest water temperature a pleasant 21 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 16 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
