Located on the Batavia Coast, Western Australia, Bowes River is a fun collection of reef and beach breaks. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and can break for up to 100 meters, serving up barreling sections where you can pull in and snag some tube time when it’s on. The rivermouth and surrounding reefs provide a great alternative to those not obsessed with the heavy, intimidating reef shelves that are so common on this part of the coast. There is also a campground near the break that many surfers frequent.

What are the best surf conditions for Bowes River?

Gets good between waist-high to triple overhead. We recommend riding your longboard or standard shortboard when bigger here. Bowes River is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. although it is much more user friendly than most breaks in the area. The surf here is pretty consistent (5/10) but crowds can be a large factor (9/10). The best winds for Bowes River come from the Northeast. The best swell direction is from the South, Southwest and West. Depending on the sand banks it works on all tides.

We recommend wearing a spring suit in summer with the warmest water temperature a pleasant 21 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 16 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
