Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, 3de Steen is a fun beach break that offers up some powerful barrels. The waves here require some skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a shifting sand bottom. Best in winter when barrels are very common.
What are the best surf conditions for 3de Steen?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the North and Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest or West. It works best on a low to mid-tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in summers when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66.2°F). In the winter, a 4/3 might be best as temps drop to about 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
