Located on the Cape Peninsula in South Africa, Queens Beach is home to a left-hand reef break that offers up a powerful takeoff into a bowly section great for ripping at least one turn into, then it mellows out. The waves here can be tricky to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Queens Beach?
It gets good between head-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will get a little busy, but the locals are nice (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Southwest or West. It works on a high tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summers when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In the winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
