Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, 1st Bank is an alright beach break that offers up some barrels that are somehow weak. The waves here are not too hard to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand and rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for 1st Bank?
It gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here more days than not. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here needs a big swell to work (4/10) and will get busy if good (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the West and big. It works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
