Located in Northeast Puerto Rico, Leeward Islands, Aviones is a decent reef peak that offers up some rippable and barreling waves, not as good as Chatarra nearby. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Aviones?
Gets good between head high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has something to surf (5/10) and will get very crowded (8/10) (and localized!). The best winds are from the Southwest. The best swells are from the Northeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures range between 29 and 26. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
