Waco Surf is one of the top wave pools in the world found in the heart of Texas (yes Texas). The patented wave technology is said to resemble an open ocean wave better than any other wave pool. Waco Surf was originally designed as a cable water skiing resort, but after the initial success of the wave pool rebranded to focus on the surf. The waves break both left and right and can be mushy for beginners up to hollow with air sections for pros. The waves tend to be between 30 and 60 meters with lots of options for all levels to feel comfortable in. Take care not to fall on the shallow sections, the bottom is a mix of rock and sand which has definitely scraped some backs up.
This wave pool is oriented North-South, so the best winds are also in those directions depending on if you are surfing left or right. Summers are nice and warm, meaning you won’t need a wetsuit, but through the winter a 3/2 might be good to bring. Wave size ranges between ankle and chest high, just enough to fit into their wedgey barrels!
Waco Surf is extremely open to the public and offers clear pricing and package deals on their website. Pricing for the pool tends to range from 80-200 USD per hour depending on the type of wave session. Waco Surf is also available for private rental year round. Depending on the session it can get a little crowded in the water, but waves come often and there should be plenty to go around. Best to go late evenings or early mornings to avoid crowds.
There are plenty of activities to do if you aren’t surfing. The lazy river and cable water skiing being two top attractions. There is also a full waterpark which is a highlight of many people’s trips. Waco Surf also offers accommodation packages for those that want to spend the night.
