Surf Lake Yeppoon is the most unique wave pool concept in the world. A massive plunger is placed in the center of a a man made lake which pumps. This creates a circular line of swells that expand out from the center. In turn they hit a variety of reefs, points, and beach break set ups. This type of wave pool is revolutionary in it’s ability to provide a huge wave per hour rate for many surfers and multiple levels of surfer at the same time. There are plenty of peaks currently from longboardable a frames to heavy slabs and the team at Surf Lake is constantly refining the waves. The size of the waves can be adjusted easily and range from ankle high to a touch overhead. Take care, this pool has been deemed somewhat powerful by professional surfers and some of the waves can be shallow onto the concrete. The wave pool is located in Yeppoon, Australia but Surf Lake has plans to build multiple copies around the world if it proves to be commercially successful.
Due to the circular nature of the pool, any wind will be offshore somewhere, so no need to worry about being skunked. This is the only factor in forecasting for the pool, aside from air temperature to determine if you’ll have to don a shortie wetsuit or stay in boardshorts/bikini.
Currently Surf Lake Yeppoon is not open to the public. Unfortunately it has taken time to get all the necessary licenses etc.. to fully open. To surf there you’ll need to be invited, which is mostly reserved for influencers and professional surfers. That being said it is rumored to be opening up to everyone in 2024. Surf Lakes hopes to build up a beachfront around the entire lake which would include bars, restaurants, sunbathing areas, and anything else a surf beachfront could want.
