The Wave at Bristol is another “Wavegarden” tech pool, and the first in the UK. Another example is URBNSurf at Melbourne. This pool implements the same triangular design with the take off at the point of the narrowest part and then the wave spreading down as the triangle widens. There is both a left and right side to this pool and it can be as mellow as an ankle high roller or as heaving as a head high slab. That makes this pool ideal for both beginner and pro surfers, offering something for everyone. The takeoff zone can be a little narrow, so make sure your position is on point. The bottom of the pool is concrete, so take care when falling. An awesome aspect of this facility is their commitment to the environment. By June 2023 the Wave will be entirely solar powered with a net 0 usage of energy.
The waves here break from South to North. The best winds are from the North. Temperature wise you’ll have to bring a wetsuit, a thicker one in the winter as well, it’s the UK!
The Wave keeps costs down, especially in the off peak season (winter). That being said even in summer they keep sessions below $100 per session. An hour of just barrels will only run you $80! Check out their website for more information.
The Wave at Bristol also offers an array of luxury cabins for overnight trips. These are great for families or groups of surfers looking to extend their stay and wave count. The facility also has a lovely cafe and restaurant to keep you fueled up in between sessions.
