Located in Mamanucas and Viti Levu, Shifties is a powerful righthander which forms a pyramid-like peel at take off which suits big cutbacks and carves. Is a bit of a swell magnet and will pick up more swell than other breaks in the area. If everywhere else is flat it worth a look! Tends to fatten out after the initial take-off. This place packs some punch. . As the name suggests it can be tricky to find the take of spot and you’ll chase your tail a bit on this one trying to track the peak down. Still fun and super peaky!
What are the best surf conditions for Shifties?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then step up as the size picks up here. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on all tides but dead low isn’t best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini all year. Water temperatures stick between 27 and 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
