Located in Miami, South Beach is a quality beach break that unloads over finely packed sand. The waves here require skill to surf (and manners for the locals), breaking for up to 150 meters and serving up deep barrels when it is good. Best to speak some Spanish if you want to surf here.
What are the best surf conditions for South Beach?
Gets good from waist-high to double overhead. A longboard will work great when there isn’t too much size in the water, but a shortboard is best when the swells arrive. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will be very crowded when good (8/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are big and from the North, Northeast, and East. Works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 30 degrees. In winter a springsuit is good when water temps drop to 22 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
