Located in East Ventura County, Ventura Overhead is a good right-hand big wave reef spot that offers up some powerful waves with fast drops into tapering shoulders. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 100 meters over a rocky reef. Takes a long paddle from Emma Wood to get here.
What are the best surf conditions for Ventura Overhead?
Gets good between double overhead and triple overhead. We recommend riding a gun or your rhino chaser here. This spot is suitable for intermediate and experienced surfers only. The surf here is fickle and only breaks a couple of times a winter (3/10) and will be uncrowded (2/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 here in the summer when water temps climb to 18 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
