On the southern edge of Oxnard in Ventura County in Southern California is Ormond Beach. Ormond is a decent beachy that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters providing great sections for turns, hacks, and carves.
What are the best surf conditions for Ormond Beach?
Gets good between waist high and overhead, too much more and it will close out. We recommend riding a shortboard here most of the time. Ormond Beach will provide for all levels of surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and hardly ever crowded (3/10). The best winds are offshore from the Northeast. The best swells come from the South and Southwest. The best tides are high.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
