Located at the Southern end of Ventura County in Southern California, Staircase Beach is an excellent beach break that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here can be peaky and fun, and break for up to 50 meters providing sections for turns and hacks.
What are the best surf conditions for Staircase Beach?
This spot gets good between waist high and overhead. We recommend a shortboard here when bigger, but a longboard will work fine when smaller. Beginners to advanced surfers will all find something on offer here depending on the day. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) but can have a crew when the surf is on (6/10), has a good vibe though. The best winds come from the Northeast, the best swells from the Northwest or South, and the best tide is high.
We recommend a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to around 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
