Located in Galicia, Spain, Barranan is a beach break that offers up some good waves for manoeuvres when the conditions line up. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Very consistent, it also draws some crowds from nearby A Coruna.
What are the best surf conditions for Barranan?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and can get quite crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North and Northwest. Works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
