Located in Western Guerrero, Mexico, Petacalco used to be an amazing right-hand barreling point. Now expansion has destroyed the wave, and it almost always closes out except on a rare few days. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 50 meters (used to be way longer) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Petacalco?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step-up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not consistent (3/10) and will get busy if it’s on (5/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The swells need to be big from the Northwest or due South. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini year-round as water temperatures fluctuate between 30 and 26 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
