Located in West Guerrero, Mexico, Las Gatas is a fun left-hand reef break that offers a zippy, powerful, hollow wave when the conditions line up. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. Needs a big swell, but an upper size limit has not been found.
What are the best surf conditions for Las Gatas?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is very inconsistent (2/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, or West. Works on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round as water temperatures fluctuate between 30°C and 26°C (86°F and 79°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
