Located in Nayarit, Mexico, Santa Cruz is a fun left-point break that offers up long rippable walls on big South swells. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. Check the river mouth if the point is small, but watch out for sharks.
What are the best surf conditions for Santa Cruz?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller, then a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will usually have a crew on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the South and Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31°C (88°F). In the winter, wear the same as the water temperatures only drop to 22°C (72°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
