Located in Nayarit, Mexico, Las Islitas-Matanchen Bay used to be one of the longest waves in the world. The right-hand point break broke once in a while and served up reeling barrels and performance sections for up to 600 meters (1969 feet). Unfortunately, now many jetties have been built up, which have ruined the waves. You can still get some sections, but they are much shorter than what they used to be. However, once in a very long while, a ride can connect up like it used to.
What are the best surf conditions for Las Islitas – Matanchen Bay?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here barely ever breaks (2/10) and will have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round. The water temperatures range from 31°C to 22°C (88°F to 72°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
