Located on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria you can find Thirteenth Beach, a collection of many surf spots. The first of these spots when you turn on the road is The Hole: A sandy bottomed beach break with patches of reef. Some waves can be challenging, powerful, and can break for up to 100 meters, providing strong sections for power hacks and carves.
What are the best surf conditions for Thirteenth Beach – The Hole?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard or step up when bigger here. The Hole is best suited to beginner to advanced surfers. The surf here is very consistent and depends greatly on the shifty banks (8/10). It can get busy during weekends and holidays, but the vibe is pretty laid back (5/10). The best winds for The Hole are Northeast and it works best on a mid to low tide. The best swell direction is from the Southwest.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in summer with the warmest water temperature a chilly 16 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 12 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
