Part of Thirteenth Beach on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Cylinders is a somewhat medicore sand beach break that has its days of excellence. Some waves can be challenging and can break for up to 100 meters, providing fun sections for manoeuvres and barrels, sand bars permitting. This section of Thirteenth Beach is usually closing out however.
What are the best surf conditions for Thirteenth Beach – Cylinders?
Gets good between waist-high to overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard or step up when bigger here. Cylinders is best suited to beginner to advanced surfers. The surf here is only good some of the time (4/10) and can get busy on weekends and holidays (5/10). The best winds for Cylinders are Northeast. The best swell direction is from the Southwest, and the best tide depends on the sandbar. It’s always worth a look, becauseif it is on it can be very good.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in summer with the warmest water temperature a brisk 16 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 12 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
