Found on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, The Spit is a decent beach break that owes its sandbars to a sand pumping jetty next to the break. The waves here can be a bit tricky at times, but are fun and provide great sections for turns and manoeuvres.
What are the best surf conditions for The Spit?
This beachie gets good between waist-high to triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here, although the waves can be slopey when smaller and a longboard will work. The Spit will accommodate all skill levels depending on size. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and houses a strong local crew (6/10). The best winds are from the West, the best swells come from the East, Northeast, Southeast, and South. The break works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 27 degrees in February. In winter the attire is the same as water temps hold at a balmy 22 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
