Also known as the “Garden” or “Rass Lafaa”, and kept semi-secret for quite a long time, Safi is now the most famous wave in Morocco. This right-handed point break, thick, hollow, fast and very technical, is often ranked amongst the Top 10 spots in the world. When it’s on, the wave can produce a perfect sucky barrel that breaks for more than 800 meters.
But you will need to always be on the look-out and study the surf forecast for a chance to enjoy this jewel. Safi only works at low tide and needs a large powerful swell (SW-N) with a north wind. I starts breaking from 3ft and can easily hold up to 15ft.
Beware of the rocks and strong rips during outgoing tide. The water quality might also be affected by Safi’s big factories and port. Last but not least, you might encounter a few “protective” locals… Just stay respectful and keep a low profile if you want them to let you experience one of the best session of your life.
